Description of Classes


Computer Basics:

No prerequisites. Just a desire to get to know the computer a little better. You will learn how to control a mouse, learn a few computer terms, create a letter or report, learn to save and revise your work, and generally feel comfortable at a computer.

Beyond Basics:

Prerequisite: Computer basics or equivalent. Beyond Basics includes a review of computer basics. Learn formatting tricks, list-making, tables, find and replace, headers and footers, and inserting clip-art in MS Word.

Microsoft PowerPoint:
line
Prerequisite: Computer Basics or equivalent. Introduction to computer slide presentations. Constructing, editing, rearranging, and showing a slide presentation. Adding objects such as clip art, graphs, or photographs to a presentation. Selecting a background design and tips for creating great presentations.

Microsoft Excel:

Prerequisite: Computer Basics or equivalent.

Learn to create a spreadsheet to track your data whether it is a Christmas card list, imminent wedding plans, your household budget, or investment tracking. Covered in this class will be spreadsheet vocabulary, entering and formatting data, copying, moving and sorting data, relative and absolute cell addressing, adding comments, formatting numbers, creating formulas, adding headers/footers, borders, graphs, printing a spreadsheet, as well as inserting, copying, and renaming worksheets.

Mail Merge/Labels (In MS Word):

Prerequisite: Must be able to create and save a document in Word and work comfortably in an MS Excel.

Using prepared documents, participants will practice producing letters for a mass mailing and learn how to create labels for them. After learning the elements of mail merge, participants will create a small database, a form letter, and a label form before merging the data into the forms for mailing. Emphasis will be placed on the correct input of data, sorting, filtering, and creating a professional-quality finished product.

Internet:

Prerequisite: basic computer experience.

Introduction to the Internet. Learn a little history of the internet. Practice searching the world wide web for information on your favorite topics. Learn how to go to a web site and follow "links."

Prerequisite: basic computer experience.

Establish a free email account. Learn how to send a message and reply to one. Learn how to create an address list.
